5 Top New Year's Day Movies to Watch from the Comfort of Your Own Home

January 01, 2018

New Year's Day.

Perhaps you are entertained by the numerous marathons of popular television series that seem to air during New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. On the other hand, you might enjoy checking out a blockbuster hit recently released in theaters with your friends and family. However, there are quite a few people who are honestly exhausted by the past week of partying, celebrating, gift-giving and social gatherings.

If you are interested in keeping it private and peaceful, then chances are you can use a great movie that you can watch from the comfort of your own home. It is true that there are quite a few Christmas classics that you may have already watched repeatedly since Christmas Day. What about New Year's Day, though? What New Year's movies are there that are perfect for days like this when you just want to "VUDU and Chill?"

Here is a list of 5 New Year's movies (or movies that at least feature New Year's) that you should consider adding to your Watch List.

HOLIDAY INN

Not many people can deny a classic musical starring Fred Astaire. In addition, how can you deny anything related to the holidays that features Bing Crosby? It was initially released back in 1942 - nearly 76 years ago. However, as most movie fans will agree, that's the beauty of classic cinema - they are timeless favorites!

OCEAN'S 11

Long before there was George Clooney and Brad Pitt, there was the brilliant pairing of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. The casino heist featured in this classic film took place on New Year's Eve and featured an impressive twist that served a huge surprise to movie fans and critics alike as the clock struck 12.

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY

There was a lot more to When Harry Met Sally than "I'll have what she's having." New Year's Day reminds you of that primarily because of the climactic scene that takes place on this special day of the year during the movie. Not everyone has seen the film before, so we will just leave it there without going into more detail. However, if you have never seen When Harry Met Sally before or simply need a refresher of what happened on New Year's Eve, then perhaps today is the best day for you to watch it.

THE APARTMENT

Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine lit the screen on fire with their on-screen chemistry in The Apartment. Keep in mind that this 48-year-old film won the 1960 Best Picture award and added yet another classic line ("Shut up and deal") to the growing list of memorable movie quotes. Again, we do not want to spoil it for people who have not yet seen the film. However, the final scene of the film takes place on New Year's Eve and will melt your heart.

BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY

When you think of career-defining roles of Renee Zellweger, chances are that Bridget Jones comes to mind. The plot of this popular 2001 film actually begins and ends on New Year's Eve - making it perfect timing for a New Year's Eve or New Year's Day romantic comedy.

Which film do you think deserves to be on the list of top movies to watch on New Year's Day?
